Delores Marie Bennett Handley

Delores Marie Bennett Handley, 91, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston from complications of a stroke. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Handley in 1997; her son Sherman “Chuck” Handley, in 1989; her granddaughter, Dea Anne Brown, in 1987; and a special friend, Russell Barnett; her father and mother, Sherman Cecil & Marie Bennett and her brothers: Wallace, Winfred, William “Bill”, Sherman “Junior” Bennett all of Teays Valley, and Willard “Curly” Bennett of Las Vegas. She was a lifelong resident of St. Albans and attended Grace Baptist Temple in St. Albans. She was a former Avon Representative, a Substitute Cook for Kanawha County Schools, a member of the WIBC (Venture Lanes and Towne N Country bowling league), a member of Nitro Women of the Moose, and a long-standing member of Hansford Senior Citizens in St. Albans. She loved to travel with the Jolly Travelers and her many friends in St. Albans. She had traveled to Ireland, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and New York and had taken several cruises – she did not like to stand idle when she could go, go, go. Left to cherish her memory are many family members and friends whose lives she touched. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jim “Beau” Brown of Scott Depot; daughter-in-law, Linda Handley and her partner, Pete Henson of St. Albans; grandchildren: John Handley and his partner, Eric Stollings of Charleston; Tim and Susan Handley; Jason Brown; Chuck and Kim Handley, all of St. Albans; great grandchildren: Brittney Handley of Nitro; Timmy Handley; Nicholas “Nick” Brown; Misty Morrison; Joey Morrison, all of St. Albans; great-great grandson, Riley Morrison of St. Albans; her sister-in-laws, Helen Bennett and Helene Bennett both of Teays Valley, their children and many other nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with Ralph Ranson conducted the service. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane. Friends may call two hours prior to the funeral service. The family would like to thank the Hubbard Hospice House Staff and medical personnel at CAMC General, 4 south, for their professional and compassionate care.
