Jeffrey Cottrill

Jeffrey Allen Cottrill, 53, of Cross Lanes, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 5, 2014. Jeff was born on January 13, 1961 in Charleston, West Virginia. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Grace and Bernard Cooper, Virginia and George Paul Cottrill; brother, James Anthony (JC) Cottrill; grandfather, William McFarland. He graduated from Herbert Hoover High School, class of 1979. He then served 4 years in the Army, followed by several years as a reservist. Upon graduating from the West Virginia State Police Academy, he served 6 years with the St. Albans Police Department. In 1989 he joined the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department and worked in road patrol as a Deputy. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and served as bailiff for the Honorable Judge James Stucky until he retired in 2006. Jeff was a member of the Kanawha County Sheriff Association and a member of the Gateway Christian Church. He loved zip lining with his wife, four wheeling, hunting and being around the children of his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Shelly Pullin Cottrill; parents, Paul and Nellie Cottrill; sister, Lorri Cottrill all of Charleston; nephew, Michael Bowlsbey; niece, Jessica (Glenn) Burnsed; a great niece Grace Ann Burnsed; mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Mary Pullin; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Joey Crawford and niece, Josie Crawford all of St. Albans, along with many close family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 9, 2014 Gateway Christian Church, 422 B Street, St. Albans with Minister Jeff Ranson and Minister Tracy Tooley officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Monday at the Gateway Christian Church, St. Albans.
