Michael Brenton Gilmore

Michael Brenton Gilmore, 16, of Hurricane died Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Born May 27, 1998 in Charleston, WV, he is the son of Bob and Sherry Gilmore. Michael was preceded in death by his Uncle, Steve Gilmore and his grandmother, Vivian Yankovich. He was a member of The Catholic Church of the Ascension Parish, Hurricane, WV. Michael’s Catholic education began at St. Agnes School and continued to his current junior year at Charleston Catholic High School. He was a recipient of the Thomas Aquinas Medal. Taking an active part in school sports teams, like soccer and track, his passion for soccer was unmatched. Michael was a starting varsity player on the CCHS Boys Soccer Team. He took great pride in his two state championship wins with the team. Participation in the ski club, church league basketball, travel soccer club, golf outings and spending time with his friends were also a large part of his time. Involvement in various community projects was something to which he dedicated many hours as well. Project Hope, Trinity Table, and counseling at Camp Leon were a few of them. His fun and adventurous nature allowed him to acquire quite a number of close friends. In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his grandparents, Bob and Patt Gilmore and Pete and his wife, Grace Yankovich all of Ridgway, PA; aunts and uncles, Mark and Julie Yankovich and Sharon Leitzel of all of Ridgway, PA, Cheryl and Paul VanScoter of Springhill, FL, Barb and Steve Vallone of St. Mary’s. PA as well as his cousins, Madison, Kaitlin, Jake, Bekka, Brock, Andrew and Mark. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Saturday, March 14, 2015 at The Catholic Church of the Ascension, 905 Hickory Mills Road, Hurricane celebrated by Rev. Father Harry Cramer. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Visitation will begin at 6pm Friday at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with the vigil service held promptly at 7:30pm.
