Arlene Joyce Wells

Arlene Joyce Wells, (born Arizona Arlene Joyce) went Home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2026, just four weeks shy of her 104th birthday. She was born September 23, 1922 to the late Arnold and Evelina (“Ducky”) Joyce in Scott Depot, WV. She was the last remaining of 13 children. Arlene married Otis G. Wells on July 19, 1941. Together they lovingly raised their two sons, Roger and Terry. Over the years her family grew, welcoming grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild that filled their hearts with joy. Although her life was dedicated to her family, she always made honoring the Lord a priority and instilled that in her family. She had many hobbies such as painting, reading, and making apple butter, but gardening was her passion, and all of her friends and family reaped the benefits. She was the best cook in the land according to her grandchildren, known especially for her amazing potato salad, which simply cannot be duplicated outside her kitchen. Thanksgiving was her absolute favorite holiday; she would spend days steeped in the warmth of the kitchen, lovingly preparing a feast to gather her entire family around the table. As time went on and in her later years, when she put the gardening days behind her, she enjoyed sitting in her sunroom, laughing with visitors, talking on the phone and coloring. She often had no “filter”, but we all would say it only meant that she loved you. She was the perfect blend of grace and spunk. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Otis G. Wells; and her beloved son, Terry Wells, who passed away just two months prior. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Roger (Sherry) Wells; and her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Wells, all of Winfield, WV; grandchildren: April Aviv of Austin, TX, Brent (Tabitha) Wells of Barbourville, KY, Toby Wells of Nashville, TN, Stacy (Mike) Taylor of Winfield, WV, Maridyth (Cat Tiffin) Wells of Round Rock, TX and Christian (Kristen) Wells of Winfield, WV; great-grandchildren: Dr. Tanner (Caleigh) Wells, Aidan Wells, Sofia Wells, Abigail Taylor, Rowan Wells, Brody (Brooke Harrison) Wells, Zach Wells, Caden Taylor, Sam Wells, Emerson Wells and Case “Spider Legs” Wells; and great-great grandson: Beau Wells. A Celebration of Life for Arlene will be 6:00 pm Friday, September 25, 2026, at Teays Valley Church of the Nazarene 3937 Teays Valley Road Hurricane, WV with Pastor Charles V. “Sonny” Williams officiating.
