Betty Flowers Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Betty Jean Flowers, 82, of St. Albans went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2011 after a short illness. There she will join her husband, Emory B. Flowers of 56 years. Born June 1, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Henry C. and Goldie Tolley Skeens. Betty retired from Kelly?s Men Shop on the west side of Charleston where she met and loved all her friends and coworkers. Betty and Emory were active for many years with St. Albans Eastern Little League, where their son and grandsons played ball. They were instrumental in bringing Little League to St. Albans and later a season was dedicated in their honor. Betty was a 50 year plus member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church where she played an active role in her Phyllis Asher Fellowship Circle. Along with her love for her church family, she enjoyed taking short bus trips, gardening, working in her flowers, Zumba lessons and just completed advance computer classes. Betty graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School and went to work immediately at Coyle?s and Richardson where she met the love of her life, married, started a family and moved to St. Albans in 1952. Betty is survived by her son, John and his wife, Betty Jo Flowers of Beaver; her daughter, Peggy and husband, Paul Allison of St. Albans; grandchildren, Patricia Marcum, Deborah Miller, Ryan Hedrick, Evan Hedrick, Brad Allison, Keith Allison and Kevin Allison; great grandchildren, Amber, Cherith, Bradyn, Kaitlyn, Lauren and Joshua. She is also survived by her brother, Don Skeens of Ravenswood; sister, Louise Miller of Huntington and ?her buddy? Aunt Focie Martin of Glasgow, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly as well. Special thanks to Dr. Esprito and the nurses in the ICU at Thomas Memorial Hospital along with friends Danny and Robin Mitchell. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday April 2, 2011 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 815 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans with Rev. Loretta Isaiah officiating. Entombment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may visit from 6-8 pm Friday at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Avenue, St. Albans.
