Cecil Coolidge Casto

Cecil Coolidge Casto, 91, of Red House entered into Heaven singing Amazing Grace on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Cecil was born January 14, 1926 on Jim Ridge in Putnam County a son of the late Alva and Lura Hunter Casto. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gloria “Dovie” Casto; grandson, Jason Matthew Casto; brother, Warren Casto; sisters, Gaynell Hoffman, Lola Mae Pennington, Tressie Casto and an infant sister, Gracie Casto. Cecil was a graduate of Poca High School. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Gloria “Dovie” Harrison in 1945. They were happily married for 68 years. Cecil and Dovie founded Casto Farm Store, Red House in 1950. He was a member of Wade Chapel United Methodist Church. Cecil had a love for the outdoors. He as an avid hunter and fisherman and went on many trips to Pocahontas County, the Cranberry and anywhere else he could take in God’s creations. He enjoyed raising a garden and shared the bounty with family and friends, never letting anything go to waste. He also enjoyed building bird houses in his later years. Cecil and Dovie traveled to several destinations with family and friends. He loved going to the “possum club” for daily “gab sessions” with his buddies. He is survived by his sons, John Casto (Pattie) of Red House, Jim Casto (Sharon) of Lorida, FL; grandsons, JD Casto (Susie), Paul Casto (Norma Wagner), Nathan Casto (Stacey); great-grandchildren, Luke, Hollie and Emma Casto, Johnathan Bond, Hannah Casto and Morgan Vannoy. Funeral service will be held at 2pm Monday, March 13, 2017 at Wade Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastors Wayne Hooper and Steve Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm Sunday at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield and one hour prior to the service at the church.
