Charles T. Miller

Charles T. “Chuck” Miller 78, went Home to be with the Lord on August 4, 2026. He passed away peacefully at home with his family after a long illness. Chuck was born on June 27, 1948, to Charles W. and Harriet Good Miller in Winslow, Washington. He attended grammar school in Jackson County, West Virginia at a one-room schoolhouse until moving to Hamlin where he rode the bus all the way to Putnam County for junior and senior high school, graduating from Hurricane High School in 1965 at age 16. After graduation Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy as a corpsman, serving in Vietnam as a combat medic assigned to the First Marine Division. Upon his return from combat and finishing his tour with the Navy, Chuck served as a Kanawha County Deputy Sheriff while he obtained his degree in Criminal Justice from West Virginia State College. He then went to law school at West Virginia University. As an attorney, Chuck returned to military service as a Judge Advocate General, first commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the West Virginia Army National Guard before transferring 14 years later to the West Virginia Air National Guard from which he retired at the rank of Colonel after a total of 42 years’ decorated military service. In civilian life, Chuck continued to serve the people of West Virginia as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Kanawha County, as an Assistant United States Attorney, as United States Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia, and finally as the elected Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney until his retirement in June 2024. Over the course of his 49-year career, Chuck was known for his consummate professionalism, leadership, extraordinary trial skill, and a relentless pursuit of justice, always tempered by kindness and fairness. More important to Chuck than all the accolades of his military and legal careers was faith and family. He was a man of quiet, yet strong faith in Jesus Christ, living out that faith in selfless service to others. Chuck is survived by his cherished wife of 52 years, Rebecca “Becky” Louise Campbell Miller; daughters: Angela (Josh) Hanks of Charleston, Emily (Rob) Reed of St. Albans, Kathryn Miller of Red House, and son, Preston Miller of Scott Depot; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Norma Hale of South Charleston. Funeral Service for Chuck will be 12:00 noon Tuesday August 11, 2026 at Chapman Funeral Home with Chaplain Pete Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery with military honors. Friends may visit the family from 10:00am until 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
