Charles Nelson

Charles H. Nelson, 94, of Hurricane was a lifelong resident of West Virginia and went to be with the Lord October 14, 2010 after a long illness. He was born April 3, 1916 in Guyandotte, WV. He was the son of Anna Vickers Jacobs and Alan Nelson. At the age of 3 his father died and later his mother married his step-father, Hershel Jacobs, whom he loved as a father. He was a loving husband, daddy, papaw, and grandpapaw. He will be greatly missed. He was retired in 1980 from Union Carbide Chemical Corporation at Institute West Virginia. He enjoyed planting his vegetable garden and giving thanks to God for giving the increase. He had a tremendous love for other people and always put himself last. He was a devoted Christian member of The First Church of God in Hurricane and served as a Sunday School Teacher and other positions for over 50 years. He lived his life for The Lord and was a great testimony for everyone that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his youngest son Stephen of Staffordsville, KY, his eldest son Lloyd of Beverly Hills, FL, and grandson Alan Nelson of San Francisco, CA, his sister Opal Fletcher of Milton, WV; two brothers; Hershel Jacobs Jr., of Columbus, OH and Ray Jacobs of Milton, WV. He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 68 years, Martha Chandler Nelson, Sons: Kelly of Hurricane, WV; Ronnie (Tami) of Chester, VA; Donnie (Jan) of Hurricane, WV; and Paul (Debbie) of Crystal River, FL; daughters-in-law Sandy Nelson of Beverly Hills, FL, and Karen Nelson of Staffordsville, KY. He had five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two sisters; Phyllis Glenn of Milton, WV, and Betty Evans of Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, WV with Pastor Ralph Cobb, Rev. Clifford Wilcoxen, and Dan Butler officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fraziers Bottom, WV.
