Charlotte Ruth (Walker) Martin

Charlotte Ruth (Walker) Martin, 78, went home to be with her Savior and Lord on June 27, 2016, in the arms of her devoted son, at his home in Mason, Ohio. Born November 19, 1937 in Nitro, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Homer Walker and Myrtle Hicks Walker. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Harlan E. (“Gene”) Martin; her brother, Thomas Lee Walker; and a half-sister, Ernestine Collins. She was a loving, caring and loyal wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed many activities with her children and grandchildren, ranging from whiffle ball, badminton and croquet when she was younger to working puzzles, playing cards, Wii bowling and putt-putt golf as she became older. Charlotte was a member of Grace Baptist Temple in St. Albans since 1978. She loved her brothers and sisters in Christ, spending many years there singing in the church choir and helping with the church nursery for over 25 years. She worked from 1981 through her “second” retirement in 2003 at the WV State Hygienic Lab in South Charleston where she had many close friends. She went out with “The Birthday Girls” regularly even after her retirement. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her, and Charlotte’s quiet, but profound influence on all our lives will never be forgotten. Charlotte is survived by her son, Richard E. Martin of Mason, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky Martin Tucker and Gordon Tucker of Charleston, Illinois and Linette Martin Simms and John Simms of St. Albans; and grandchildren, Daniel M. Tucker, Sarah E. Rheaume (Mark Rheaume), and Luke Samuel Lee Martin. Our brother would like to thank his two loving sisters, along with Diane, Janessa, Lisa, Mary, Melody, and Nancy, who assisted him in providing loving care with a gracious, merciful and giving spirit during the past 2 ½ years. We would also like to thank Visiting Angels and Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care for all their support. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 2, at 12 p.m. at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor Brian Dean officiating. Entombment will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Charlotte’s memory to Grace Baptist Temple, 1901 MacCorkle Avenue SW, St. Albans, West Virginia.
