Della Pearl Walker

Della Pearl Walker 94, of Charleston, WV, formerly of Dunbar, went Home to be with the Lord on August 27, 2024. Della Pearl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John C. Walker and her son, Wayne Walker. She was very proud of her name Della Pearl, as she was named after her paternal and maternal grandmothers. In 2022, at the age of 92, Della Pearl instantly lost her sight due to a medical issue. She had great hope that her sight would return but did not and she didn’t become despondent or complain. Instead, she handled it with poise and grace worthy of emulation. She was a member of Christ Community Church in Winfield. Della Pearl’s love and faith in God helped her to overcome many obstacles in life and ultimately to leave this world with calm peace and assurance from her salvation. Della Pearl is survived by her granddaughter: Rhonda (Kevin) Riffe with whom she shared an extraordinary relationship. She is also survived by her grandson: Shawn (Kellie) Walker and granddaughter: Jeanette (Rusty) Wines; great-grandsons: Nicholson Atkins & Landon Wines. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Hershey, whose name is a testament to her “sweet tooth” and love of chocolate.Della Pearl was a homemaker, mother, and cherished grandmother. She was affectionately known as Mom-ma to many, including her amazing caregivers: Anaya Banks and Jill Mullins. These two exceptional women gave their all to her care over the past few years. Della Pearl also developed a loving bond with Anaya’s young son, A’zier, whom she affectionately called “my boy”. The family would like to acknowledge all of those who touched her heart with love and prayer. Special mention should also be made for the staff at Kanawha Place who took outstanding care of her during her time there. Kanawha Hospice was also instrumental in making this transition less difficult. Funeral Service for Della Pearl will be 12:00 pm Wednesday September 4, 2024 at Chapman Funeral Home Winfield, WV with Pastor Gary Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park St. Albans, WV. Friends may visit with family one hour prior to the service.
