Fanna Lucille Powell

Fanna Lucille Powell, 94, resident of Broadmore Senior Living and formerly of St. Albans passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. Fanna was born October 8, 1922 to the late Iva and John Thurston, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, William Whaley and William Powell; son, Steve Whaley and his wife Judy Whaley; brothers, Orloff and John Thurston; sisters, Charlotte Roy, Milburn Skeen, Edna Dickinson and Stepson, Dale Richard Powell. Fanna was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in St. Albans. She retired from the Charleston Fire Department and the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. She and her husband, Bill Powell, were active supporters of the St. Albans Red Dragons sports and avid fans of the West Virginia University football and basketball teams and traveled extensively to the games. Through the years, Fanna has always been there for the family members and opened her home to many nieces and nephews who were in need of help. She will leave many fond memories of her love. Fanna is survived by her granddaughters, Mendy Whaley White and husband Darin and Cindy Whaley Christy and her husband Matt; grandson, Lance Whaley and wife Kristy; 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her step-daughter, Diane Wolf and her children Jessica, Lindsey, Meagan and David; Stepson, C.W. “Butch” Powell and wife Janet; step-granddaughter, Angela Powell Coffman and husband Steve; step-grandson, Chad Powell; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with the Rev. Dr. Ed Grant and Rev Ross Harrison officiating. Entombment will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
