Florist Kathern "Katie" Davis

Florist Kathern King Davis, 96 of Scott Depot, formerly of Hilltop Drive in South Charleston, passed away Monday July 24, 2017 at her home. Kathern was born in Charleston and was a daughter of the late George King and Margaret Nichols King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Edmun F. Davis Jr, her son Edmun Davis, III; siblings, Marjorie DuBoise, Helen Mullins, Edward King, Paul King and George S. King Jr. “Katie” as she was known by family and friends lived with husband Edmun in South Charleston for 60 years prior to moving to Scott Depot 10 years ago, where they became members of St. John United Methodist Church. Katie had previously been a cook at Staunton Elementary and a buyer at McClung & Morgan. Most of all, she loved caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and beloved dogs. She also was an avid bridge player. She is survived by her children; James R. Davis (Toni) of Hurricane, John R. Davis of Kansas City, KS and Karen Anne Kinder of Scott Depot; daughter-in-law Glendora of Merriam, KS; grandchildren, Berry (Shannon), Bonnie, Brett (Jennifer), Jason, Jeff (Lori), Bradley (Amanda), Nikki, Gary (Jennie) and Brent (Pamina); 20 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, George J. Davis (Ellen) of Charleston and Harry B. Davis (Sue Ann) of St. Albans, 17 nephews and 17 nieces. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday July 29, 2017 at St. John United Methodist Church, 4536 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot with Rev. Michael Q. Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The family would like to thank HospiceCare for the work they do to help families and Susan Rich, Peggy Kuhl, Barb Southern and Diane Lett for caring for Katie during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Putnam County Animal Shelter, Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or HospiceCare. Envelopes will be available at the church.
