Harold "Slick" F. Watts Sr.

Harold F. "Slick" Watts Sr. passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s hospital in Huntington after a long but hard fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by many children and grandchildren. He was truly loved by the many lives he touched along his journey. He was a South Charleston Black Eagle member of the class of 1952. He was a devout man of God and was a long-time member of the Washington Street Church of Christ in St. Albans. He was retired member of the United States Postal Service with 31 years service. He lived life serving God and with a mission of always making those around him laugh. He was involved in every aspect of his family’s lives and spent 30 years coaching the youth in the Kanawha Valley in various sports. He loved his dear friends, Mo and Betty Ghazi and Patti Nelson who were his long-time bowling partners. Next to God and Family, bowling was his passion. He spent more than 50 plus years bowling in leagues at Venture Lanes bowling alley always searching for that perfect game. He would want all to know how proud he was that at 78 years old he came within one pin of achieving that goal, bowling a 299. He will be missed by many but he leaves behind a legacy through his family and the many lives he’s touched that will live on. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife Lois J. Stricklen Watts; grandson, John Shelton; father, Raymond Watts; mother, Effie Watts; brothers, Ed Watts and Don Watts; sisters, Nadine Russell and Betty (Cookie) Wilson. He is survived by children; Diana Watts (David) Roe of Oklahoma, Laura Watts (Fred) Cluff of Oklahoma, Gregory (Kathy) Watts of Sissonville, Harold “Howie” (Susie) Watts II of Teays Valley, Jerry (Tina) Watts of Martinsburg, Tim Watts (Diane Bastug) of St. Albans, Bryan (April) Watts of Hurricane, Scott (Erica) Watts of Belleview, FL, Niki Watts Cavender (Chuck Hudson) of St. Albans; special son, Jason Cavender of St. Albans, 27 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and sister Dorris Bucalew of Pinch. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday December 20, 2014, Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with Minister Eddie Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday at the funeral home.
