Herman Anthony DeProspero

Herman Anthony DeProspero, 65, of Hurricane joined his parents and sister in Heaven on Friday, December 18, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born November 2, 1950 in Morgantown, he was the son of the late Herman Joseph and Betty Jean Bell DeProspero. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Christal Veronica Nagy. Herman was a graduate of St. Francis High School in Morgantown and Fairmont State College. Following graduation, he accepted a position with Austin Powder Company, based out of Cleveland, Ohio. With 43 years of service with the company, he held the position as President of the Appalachian Division. He was a devout Catholic and member of The Catholic Church of the Ascension, Hurricane, WV. Known for his presence and big voice, Herman was truly a “gentle giant”. From umpiring Little League games to his service to the Church as a Liturgist and Eucharistic Minister, his big heart for service was made bigger still. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Patty; their children, Herman Edward DeProspero, his wife, Nicole and their children, Herman Nicholas, Jane Elizabeth and Joseph Anthony; Jeremy Todd DeProspero, his wife, Tiffany and their son, Boston Ace; Derek Justin DeProspero of Boston, MA; Jared Anthony DeProspero of Charleston, WV. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Lewis Nagy of Morgantown and his children, Lewis Joseph and Angela Ann Nagy as well as his “Unk” Father Ed Bell of Parkersburg. And not to forget his little princess, Sophie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at The Catholic Church of the Ascension con-celebrated by Father Harry Cramer and Father Ed Bell. Pallbearers will be gentlemen from Austin Powder Company. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Monday at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane where a Scripture service will be held at 7:30pm.
