Ila Mae Owens Shinn

Ila Mae Owens Shinn, 80, of Scott Depot died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at her home. Born January 31, 1934, she was a daughter of the late, Clarence Raymond and Liza Poling Owens. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Owens. Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Ila Mae loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Taught by their father as children to sing and harmonize, Ila, along with her brothers and sisters, met yearly in Canaan Valley for a family reunion where music prevailed. She was also an avid golfer and formerly president of the women’s group of Covenant Presbyterian Church and also vice-president of the women’s group at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was a former supervisor with the State of West Virginia Retirement Systems. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, James E. Shinn; her children, Raymond “Randy” Parsons (Nancy) of Winfield, Larry D. Parsons )Rhonda) of Milton, Jay M. Parson (Brenda) of Fraziers Bottom, Mike Shinn (Kelly) of Nashville, TN, James Shinn, Jr. (Mary) of Malden, Pam Workman (Doak) of Houston, TX; her grandchildren, Randall Parsons (Rachel) Meredith K. Kincaid (Joseph), Christopher M. Parsons, (Marcie), Larry D. Parsons, Jr. (Ashley), Jennifer G. Smith (Sam), Carrie M. Hale (Gary), Cassie J. Parsons (Kevin); great-grandchildren, Noah and Cooper Parsons, Justin and Abigail Parsons, Trey, Toby and Tayte Smith, Kolby Parsons, Mandy, Jessica and Katie Shinn, Duran, Megan and Dexx Workman, Alex and Mackenzie Hale; her brothers, Tommy Owens, Neil R. Owens (Ruth), John D. Owens, (Dorothy), Gary Owens (Kathy); sisters, Nancy Stewart, Jill Owens (Jim) and their families; sister-in-law, Jackie Owens; special friend and caregiver, Beverly Burdette. Funeral service will be held at 2pm Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with Rev. Tim Valentine officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.
