James Myrl Ross

James Myrl Ross, 85, of Scott Depot, formerly of St. Albans, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 5, 2014 following a battle with cancer and while surrounded by his loving family. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lee Ross and Clyda Sigmon Ross; brothers, Charles Lee Ross, Jr., Clyde Ross; and sister, June Hamel. Also preceding him are is mother and father-law, Robert L. and Naomi V. Morris; brother and sisters-in-law, John R. Morris, Claribel V. Morris and Velma B. Morris. Jim was a Christian and Deacon of Scott Depot Bible Church (formerly Scary Freewill Baptist Church). He was retired from Columbia Gas after 33 years of service, served his country in the United States Air Force and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Jim was a faithful friend who was there to help anyone who needed help with anything from gas lines to cars with his many talents. He was a guiding light to his family. Since his retirement in 1984, he has cared for his disabled sons, Jim and Jerry and also his wife, Mary who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Jim was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 57 years; daughter, Alecia (Eric) Tyson of Scott Depot; sons, Jimmy, Michael (Paula Gore) and Jerry all of Scott Depot. Grandchildren include John Michael Ross of Muncie, Indiana, Michelle Rollins and Jeremy Ross (Araya) of Hurricane, Brandon Tyson of Scott Depot, Matthew Tyson (Jordan) of Winfield and Ashley Andrews (Jonathan) of Hurricane, Benjamin and Nicholas Salmon of Bloomingrose. Great Grandchildren include Justin Rollins, Ryan Rollins, Addison Ross, Bryce Cater and Riley Wooldridge of Hurricane. He was expecting three more great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law, Drema Morris, Elaine (Lowell) Chambers and Earl N. Roberts all of St. Albans, Lee (Barbara) Morris of Scott Depot, Roberta (Ronald) Naylor of Cross Lanes, Anita (Ernest) Rhodes of Hurricane as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane with his great nephew, Bill Whittington, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Hurricane. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
