Jean K. Gibson

We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Jean Kay Coburn Gibson 81, who left us on July 1, 2026. Jean was a devoted wife to her husband Darwin and deeply committed to her family. After the loss of her daughter, she became an even more important presence in the lives of her granddaughter, and two great grandsons, who she absolutely adored. She filled a space that could never truly be replaced and carried her daughter’s memory forward in the way she loved and showed up for them. She had a playful, youthful spirit that never faded. She wasn’t afraid to be silly, whether it was laughing in the car, making dancing videos, before social media was even a thing, or just enjoying life in the moment. She went to movies and shopping with her daughter and granddaughter faithfully, and those shared experiences became some of the most treasured parts of their lives. Above all, she was strong in her faith, loving, patient, kind, and deeply cherished by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Jean is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Darwin Gibson; son in law, Randy Templeton (Sherry); granddaughter, Tatum Ferguson (Josh); two very special great grandsons: Gunner and Graham Ferguson; and sister, Lisa Johnson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherri Templeton; her parents: Jim and Rosalie Coburn; and sisters: Patty Chandler and Glenna Childers. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. Funeral Service for Jean will be 1:00pm Tuesday July 7, 2026 at Chapman Funeral Home Hurricane, WV with Rev. Jerry Losh officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park Main Street Hurricane, WV. Friends may visit the family an hour prior to the service.
