Jennings Dean Morris

Jennings “Dean” Morris 83, of Scott Depot, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2019, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Morris; mother, Inez Morris; brother Charles “Buster” Morris; sister, Marian June Myers, and a childhood friend, Gary Ted Moles, whom he led to the Lord Jesus Christ. Born on September 24, 1935 in Blue Creek, WV, Dean was a graduate of Elkview High School. He was a resident of St. Albans for 17 years and a current resident of Scott Depot, Putnam Co. Dean was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired after 44 years of service as Distribution Superintendent of West Virginia American Water Company. After retirement, his favorite fulltime hobbies were fishing in any freshwater stream or lake, and at Myrtle Beach, SC or the Florida Gulf Coast. He also took up golf, playing at various golf courses on the East Coast. Dean was an avid college football and basketball fan with many seasons in the stands cheering for the Mountaineers and Thundering Herd. During his early years, he was an active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist, Mt. Pleasant Baptist, and Twin City Bible churches. Dean was a member and usher at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist for 28 years. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Martha; son, Joseph Morris (Melissa) of Florida; daughter, Sheila Morris of Nitro; brothers, Ronald Morris (Thelma) of Barefoot Bay, FL, Robert Morris of Blue Creek; sister, Barbara Brotherton of Dunbar; sister-in-law, Thelma Hicks of Atlanta, GA and brother-in-law, William “Bill” Cobb of Kentucky; best friend, Frank McDonough (Sally) of Hurricane; 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Jack Kinder, nurses on 3 North at CAMC, the door ushers of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist and all the supportive church families. A very special thanks to John Hesson of St. Albans, for his care of Dean, and to the staff at Hubbard Hospice House West. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday April 17, 2019 at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Hurricane with Dr. John Smith officiating, along with Pastors Chad Estep, Grant Humphries, Jared Green, and Tyler McClain. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.
