John Scott Casto II

John Scott Casto II, 37 of Hurricane, passed away on the morning of December 13, 2017 at home as a result of a sudden and unexpected heart attack. John was born and raised in Nitro and graduated from Nitro High School in 2000. After graduation, John pursued his education in nursing but also started various business ventures in real estate, assisted living, and auto care. John was a young entrepreneur, who loved business and aspired to be great. John's perseverance, grit and determination to work hard was unwavering - to proud to ever ask for a handout. John loved the gym, and was an avid weightlifter. He enjoyed spending time with friends, his son and cuddling on the couch with his wife. John enjoyed the outdoors: fishing, hunting and riding ATVs at his father's Big Jon's farm in Red House. Above all, John loved the Lord and his family. He was a child of God who acknowledged his sin and need for a savior, Jesus Christ. John's walk was far from perfect, but his commitment to lay down his life for others was unquestionable. If you knew John then you knew he would do anything, or give up anything, to help you if you were in need. John leaves behind his wife, Meredith, and son Lex. Meredith was the love of his life; Beautiful, compassionate, understanding, loving, kind and the greatest cook next to Maw Maw Lee of course. These were the words John used most often to describe her. The pride of John's life though was undoubtedly his son, Lex. Smart, funny, strong, amazing and a much better athlete than he was is how John would describe his son. He couldn't speak of Lex without smiling. John Casto gave much in life, asked for little in return, and was grateful for all he had. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege and honor to know him. John is survived by wife Meredith Casto, Son Lex Casto, Father and Step Mother John and Cheryl Casto, Mother Tonya O'Dell, Mamaw Lee, Mamaw Connie, half-sisters, Kristine Elliott and Jalee Rader, Uncles Jeff O' Dell, Dana Casto, Casey Casto, Nephew Austin and many cousins and family. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Monday at Chapman Funeral Home, with Pastor Barrett Jordan officiating. Burial will follow on the Casto family farm. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Chapman Funeral Home, family owned and located at 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, is honored to serve the Casto family.
