John Wesley Stancik

John W. Stancik, 88, of Hurricane, WV, died peacefully on August 20, 2023, at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV. That day, this world lost a great and brilliant man. John graduated as a chemical engineer from Illinois Institute of Technology and retired from Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation after almost 40 years of service where he held many important positions. John was a 32nd degree Mason, an avid reader where he moderated a book club, loved to fish, watch TV, enjoy the birds, enjoy his pipe and, of course, his scotch. John always lived life to the fullest. He was a golfer at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, a Putnam County Master Gardner, a problem solver, and a human dictionary. He traveled throughout the United States and other countries, and could share a wealth of information. His favorite saying was “it is what it is” because some things in life cannot be changed. He also had great faith in God. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, who was the love of his life; children, Shawn Patterson (Bill), Kim Johnston (Scott), Stephanie Braswell (Greg), Craig Stancik, Andrea Stancik (Sarah), Nicola Dawson, Lavonda Williams (Greg) and Judith Stancik. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Logan Williams, Elaina Dunfee, Harrison Braswell, Jackson Braswell, McLain Braswell, Kirby Patterson, Michael Dawson, and Paige McCarty. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Sylvia Stancik, his brother, Michael Stancik, and his son, Todd Stancik. Following a private graveside service, the family will receive all those who knew and loved John, during a Celebration of Life on Saturday September 9th, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Little Creek Country Club 99 Fairway Drive, South Charleston, WV.
