M. Erwin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Margaret ?Peggy? Erwin, 79, of Scott Depot died on October 18, 2010 at CAMC General Division after a short illness. She was born October 11, 1931, a daughter of the late Lula (Bess) and William Henry Larck in Scott Depot. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: William ?Bill? Larck and sister: Eloise Gum. Peggy was a member of Pine Grove Church of Christ and spent over fifty years serving alongside George as they ministered to churches of Christ in Danforth (Maine), Princeton, Scott Depot, and Winfield. Of all their ministry efforts, the Erwin?s have found their greatest joy in serving area youth through Surprise Valley Youth Camp in Beckley where George has served as director and Peggy as head cook for over four decades. Additionally, she enjoyed preparing tray favors for emergency room & nursing home patients, baking her famous rolls for church meals, and teaching children?s Bible classes. Peggy loved sewing & quilting and belonged to the Putnam County Quilt Lovers Guild. After attending Marshall College for two years, she served as a teacher in Putnam County schools for several years. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, George; daughter Georg-Ann Green and husband Dick of Hurricane; grandson Blaine Kelly and wife Caroline of Morristown, TN; and granddaughter Megan Johnson and husband Josh of Lexington, KY; sister: Lillian Johnson of Scott Depot; 3 great-grandchildren; and 10 nieces & nephews. In addition to her family whom she loved dearly, Peggy was blessed to have a host of close friends. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 am, at Pine Grove Church of Christ, Scott Depot, with ministers Tim Jorgensen and Pete Allinder officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. Memorial contributions may be made in Peggy?s name to the organization that the Erwins have devoted several years too: Surprise Valley Youth Camp, c/o Dick Walker, 602 Poplar Heights Rd., Point Pleasant, WV 25550.
