Martha Morris

Martha Nester Morris, 92, of St. Albans went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Hubbard Hospice House West after a short illness. Martha was born in St. Albans a daughter of the late Frank and Addie Neal Nester. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William R. Morris, Jr. in 2008; brother, Leonard Nester and sister, Jerry Nester Justice. Martha graduated from St. Albans High School and attended Morris Harvey College, majoring in chemistry. During World War II, she left college and enlisted in the United States Navy and was very proud of her military service. After the war, she returned to college where she met her husband, Bill Morris. After their marriage, she again left college to be a devoted wife and mother. Once her sons were in high school, she returned to college and completed her undergraduate degree at West Virginia State College as well as her Masters’ degree from West Virginia University. She had a successful career as a creative and kind teacher at Central Elementary for over 20 years. After retirement, Martha and Bill enjoyed extensive travel and were most especially wonderful, doting and beloved grandparents. Martha was an active and dedicated member of The First Baptist Church of St. Albans for over 70 years. She demonstrated daily by her deeds that her faith was a sustaining and important part of her life. She is survived by her two sons, John Stephen Morris (Diana) of St. Albans, William Russell Morris, III of Dunbar; four grandchildren, Erin Morris of Lexington, KY, David Morris of Washington, DC, Shane Morris of Cross Lanes, Heidi Morris of Greenville, SC; four great-grandchildren, Liam and Finley Morris-Phelps of Lexington, KY, Gannon and Maddie Morris of Cross Lanes; brother, Bill Nester of Lewisburg; and special caregiver, Teresa White whose care and companionship has been so very appreciated by Martha and her family. Funeral service will be held at 3pm Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of St. Albans with Pastor Joel Harpold officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
