Megan Jo Lyvers

Megan Jo Lyvers was born on October 4, 1997 in Houston, Texas and unexpectedly went Home to be with the Lord on August 25, 2026. Megan received her K-12 education being homeschooled, at Teays Valley Christian School and graduated from Winfield High School. She earned her BA in English at Marshall University and enjoyed a two-month study abroad experience in Spain. Megan became a Certified Special Education teacher then taught at Winfield Middle and Elementary Schools where she loved her students, as well as her interaction with parents and colleagues. Megan was born with a rare visual impairment. She and her family were thankful for surgeries at both WVU Medical School and Duke University Eye Clinic. Despite being born legally blind, with the assistance of WV Rehabilitation Services Driver's Training Program, she was able to obtain her WV Driver's License and later, earn her night driving permit. Despite her disability, she valued her independence and ability to contribute to the community. Megan was a bright, well-read and good-humored loyal friend and family member. She loved music and sang with the Appalachian Children's Chorus for 10 years including traveling with them to Hawaii, Ireland and Italy. In recent years, Megan sang with the Hurricane Civic Chorus. Megan had a keen eye for good storytelling. She had a quiet side that enjoyed good books and movies, but she also had a flair for travel and adventure. Besides the afore-mentioned countries, Megan also enjoyed time in the Caribbean, cruising the Mediterranean, and the Inside Passage of Alaska with her extended family from Texas and enjoying art, food and culture domestically as well. Most importantly, Megan had made peace with her Maker. She had been involved with campus bible studies and was active in small group fellowships along with worshipping at River Ridge Church and Redeemer Presbyterian, PCA. She believed in her heart and confessed with her tongue that Jesus is Lord and we trust that she is now in His presence with no more pain or sadness. She is survived by her father and mother: Thomas M. Lyvers, Sr. and Brenda Ruth (Habegger) Lyvers of Scott Depot, WV. Megan also leaves behind her three loving brothers: Thomas Merrick Lyvers, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth Anne (Yoder) of Hurricane, WV, Ethan Joshua Lyvers and Asa Hunter Lyvers, both of Chicago, Illinois. Megan will also be missed by her nephew, Jack Robert Lyvers and niece, Laura Ruth Lyvers, along with triplet nieces and nephew due in November 2026. She is also survived by her grandfather, Gary Alfred Habegger of Houston, Texas. Megan was preceded in death by her fraternal grandfather, Leon Everett Lyvers and her fraternal grandmother, Winifred Iris Brooks both of Iowa City, Iowa. Megan was also preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Janice Habegger of Houston, Texas. Megan’s Funeral Service will be 6:00pm Tuesday September 1, 2026 at Redeemer Presbyterian Church (PCA) 3965 Teays Valley Road Hurricane, WV with Rev. Kurt Gray officiating. Friends may visit from 4:00pm until 6:00pm Tuesday at the church. A time for light refreshments and fellowship will follow the service. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made in Megan’s name to the work of gospel-centered missionaries, charities or churches of your choice or to a biblical counseling ministry such as Christian Counseling & Education Foundation in Glenside, Pennsylvania (ccef.org/donate).
