Norma "Joyce" Miles

Norma "Joyce" Miles, 84, of St. Albans, WV, one of the kindest, sweetest, and gentlest souls, entered into Heaven's gates February 1, 2019. Born June 21, 1934 in Oak Hill, Ohio, to mother Ventrue Wiblen, Joyce was moved to West Virginia and raised by her grandparents, Floyd and Vola Wiblen, due to her mother's untimely passing when Joyce was 18 months of age. She was raised like a daughter in their loving home surrounded by "siblings" Muncie, Treasure, Forrest, Margaret, and Sally Wiblen, and sister Rosemary Means, all of whom preceded her in death. Joyce graduated from St. Albans High School with the close-knit Class of 1952. Shortly after graduation she went to work for C & P Telephone Company in Charleston, WV. Joyce married her beloved husband of 44 years, Robert E. "Gene" Miles, in March, 1958. She retired from C & P after the birth of their son that December. Sadly, Gene also preceded her in death October, 2002. Joyce is survived by their two children: Mark Miles (wife Jan, ex-wife Dee Moore), and Beth Price (Larry), all of St. Albans, and her 4 grandchildren who were the apple of her eye: Zachary Miles (Michelle), South Charleston, Megan Halstead (John), Winfield, Christen Price, St. Albans, and Carly Reich, St. Albans. She was also blessed with 6 beautiful great-grandchildren: Gracie and Katelyn Miles; and Braxton, Kason, Addilyn and Emma Halstead. Throughout her years, Joyce had many faithful pets whom she pampered and spoiled, particularly Ginger, Champ, and Mickey, who we know have all been waiting anxiously at "The Rainbow Bridge" for her arrival. At some future date, her sweet Maltese, Marley, will join their reunion in heaven. Joyce was a Christian and long-time member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Her kind and gentle soul unselfishly reached out and touched so many others. She was endearing and appreciated for her humble personality, as she always spoke her truth in love. Her family learned so much from her wisdom and outlook on life, as well as the example by which she lived. Joyce was from the generation where women were proud to be homemakers, take care of their families, and okay to do without. She made her children's clothes for many years, putting her heart into every stitch making sure they were well-dressed. Joyce lived to cook and bake for her family - those delicious Sunday and holiday dinners were days filled with board games, conversation, laughter, and the best memories which we will forever treasure in our hearts! The family wishes to express their appreciation to the following neighbors who watched over Joyce like angels near the end of her time: The Cunningham family (Chuck, Belinda, Blake), and Bev McCormick who lovingly adopted Joyce's precious Marley. Lastly, heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Genesis Healthcare in Dunbar, WV, for taking such an interest in and fabulous care of Joyce these last few weeks...your kindness was genuine and meant the world to us. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2019 from 12:30-2:00 pm at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home in St. Albans, with funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Entombment will take place immediately following at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association.
