Omer Goad Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Omer Heith Goad, Sr. 86, of Clay passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife and family by his side on April 14, 2011. Omer was born May 17, 1924 in Mullens, WV, a son of the late Ellis and Nancy Whitt Goad. A WWII Navy veteran, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April, 1943 where he was first stationed at US Naval Training Station Great Lakes, ILL and then on the USS West Virginia. Omer and his wife Lena moved to Clay in 1951 where they made their home and raised their family. A life-long electrician, Omer was best known for his service to the town of Clay as manager of Elk Power Company for over 53 years. He was a member of Clay United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harrison Goad and Jesse Goad. Omer is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lena Lenore (Wood) Goad; daughters Gloria Nicholas and husband Larry of Vine Grove, KY and Marshia Cottrell and husband Randy of Maysel; son Heith Goad of Chloe; grandsons Cory Cottrell and wife Michelle of Ivydale and Christopher and Drue Goad of Chloe; granddaughter Nicole Buchannon and husband Kevin of Rineyville, KY; great-grandchildren Chance and Brenton Cottrell of Ivydale; a sister Winnie Linkous of Mullens and brother Lawrence Goad of Mullens. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2011 at Clay United Methodist Church, Clay with Rev. Don Dobbins officiating. Friends may visit from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the church.
