Paul Bradley

Paul Clayton Bradley, 85, a resident of St. Albans, WV, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday evening, October 13, 2009. He had been in care briefly at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pt. Pleasant, WV. His family appreciates the loving care he received in the past from Angel Avenue Assisted Living, Hurricane, WV, the Hansford Senior Center, St. Albans, WV and recent months at Pleasant Valley Hospital and Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Paul was born on Novermber 27, 1922, one of the six children of the late Cora L. Hudson and Kenneth A. Bradley in Peytona, WV. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Yvonne Bradley, for whom he cherished for many years, as well as older brothers, William Bradley and Kennth A. Bradley, Jr. He was a supportive, compassionate father survived by his two children: Charles A. Bradley and fiance' Mary Beth Carlisle of Pt. Pleasant, WV; Mark C. Bradley and wife Paula of Hurricane, WV as well as three siblings, Lena May Itnyre of Boonesboro, MD, and the twins Helen Pritt of Dunbar, WV and H.E. "Cotton" Bradley of Teays Valley, WV. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Loren C. Bradley and wife Tiffany with son Brody C., Milton, WV; Aaron L. Bradley and wife Erica with daughter Ayla, Virginia; Tara M. Bradley, Scott Depot, WV; Lora L. Bradley, Charleston, WV; Holly N. Bradley, Hurricane, WV; Julia Y. Bradley, St. Albans, WV; C. Andrew Bradley, St. Albans, WV and sister-in-law Janice Vealey Ferris of Charleston, WV as well as her two daughters, Terri Lively Mitchell and Denise Shulz Harvey. Paul was a graduate of Sherman High School in Seth, WV, class of 1941 and attended West Virginia Institute of Technology before serving in the armed forces in the U.S. Army in the Phillipines and Japan during World War II. He and his three brothers worked under the guidance of their father in the family business of Indian Creek Gas Co. in Boone Co, WV. They worked in every aspect of the business from laying miles of gas transmission line, sometimes by hand, to day-to-day operations, drilling wells and finally serving as officers of the corporation after their father passed on. Paul was employed by Union Carbide Corp. and retired after 35 years of service. His career at UCC took him from a chemical operator to a foreman and finally a training supervisor where he was able to draw on his experience and knowledge, producing courses of instruction on chemical operations and developed a passion for passing on his knowledge as an instructor. He and his wife Betty owned and operated the St. Albans News Agency on Main St., popularly known as "The Newsstand" to many local residents. Paul was a lover of conversation, a humble man with the gift of an engaging personality. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and a great listener for all. Paul entertained others with his wonderful sense of humor, endless stories and a contagious smile. He loved fishing and boating in the many streams, lakes and rivers and travelling in the mountain state, most always taking his family with him on his outings. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Avenue, St. Albans at. Interment will immediately follow beside his beloved wife Betty in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV followed by a celebration of his life at the Hansford Senior Center in St. Albans. The family will receive friends from 6:00 ? 8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
