Paul Cooper Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Winfield, WV and Estero, FL- Paul C. Cooper, 80, of Estero, FL, formerly of Winfield, WV passed away September 25, 2011. Born September 4, 1931 in Greenfield, OH, he was a son of the late Harlan and Pauline Miller Cooper. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Cross. Paul and his wife, June, owned and operated Cooper?s Exxon for many years. This enterprise was the first business to locate at the "new" Teays Valley exit in 1964. They expanded with another location at the Hurricane exit in 1978. He retired in 1993 when his son took over the business. He and June ultimately relocated to Florida and enjoyed traveling, beautiful sunsets in Key West and made many friends where ever they went. Paul was a member of Teays Valley Presbyterian Church and a 32 year member of Nitro Moose Lodge # 565. Active in Masonry, he was a 56 year member of the Nitro Masonic Lodge # 170 AF & AM and advanced through the York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite Bodies, Royal Order of Jesters, Charleston Court # 111, and was a 46 year member of the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple where he was Captain of the Motor Corps and was a member of the team which won First Place in the International World Competition in Toronto, Canada. Former Governor Arch A. Moore awarded him a Distinguished West Virginian award in 1975. He also served his country with the United States Navy during Korea. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, June Finch Cooper, his son, Steve Cooper of Winfield; his granddaughters, who were the lights of his life, Stevie Cooper, who is a sophomore at Marshall University and Carly Cooper, a senior at Winfield High School; his sister and her husband, Beverly June and Kenny Sowers of Washington Courthouse, OH. Memorial service will be 2pm Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Chapman Funeral Home, 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, WV with Dr. J.D. Harrah officiating. Inurnment with Masonic rites by Nitro Masonic Lodge # 170, AF & AM will be in Winfield Cemetery, Winfield, WV. A reception will follow the inurnment at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church.
