MSG Robert Scott McCormack

MSG Robert Scott McCormack 48, passed away on May 15, 2023 in Morgantown, WV. Robb, as he was known to those who loved him, was born on December 2, 1974, in Washington, D.C. His parents, Robert McCormack and Esther (Baker) McCormack, lovingly raised him and his older sister, Michelle Florimbio Schall, in Maryland. MSG McCormack attended Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD before enlisting in the United States Army in 1994. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from West Virginia State University in 2005. MSG McCormack, a veteran of the Global War on Terrorism, served three years with the 3rd Ranger Battalion and one year with the 82nd Airborne Division. He then continued his service to the Nation by enlisting in the West Virginia National Guard in 2003, where joined the 2nd Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Kenova, WV. Throughout his career, he transferred to the 1092nd Engineer Battalion in Parkersburg, WV, returned to the 2/19th Special Forces Group, and culminated his career with the West Virginia Army National Guard Training Center in Kingwood, WV, where he worked full-time as the Operations Non-Commissioned Officer responsible for unit training and readiness. His primary military occupational specialty was as an Intelligence Analyst, a position in which he was responsible for maintaining language and security databases on hundreds of Soldiers, coordinating training for large scale exercises and creating various intelligence products for several countries in the Indo-Pacific Command, as well as advising command and senior leaders on intelligence and physical security. He also held qualifications as a Jumpmaster and a Parachutist. MSG McCormack completed three deployments during his time in service, including to Southwest Asia, Afghanistan, and South Korea. MSG McCormack’s awards and decorations include: two Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, one NATO medal, two Overseas Service Ribbons, one Parachutist Badge, one Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, one Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, one Combat Action Badge, two Afghanistan Campaign medals, and one Korea Defense Service Medal. MSG Robert S. McCormack honorably served the United States of America and the State of West Virginia for over 20 years. MSG McCormack met his wife, Olivia, in college in 2004 and they married in September 2006. Together they had two children he adored. In his free time, MSG McCormack enjoyed movies, music, hiking, exploring the woods, and hunting. He enjoyed reading autobiographies and history-related books. He had a contagious, hearty laugh that was loved by many. He was very charming, and he loved telling jokes and pranking others every chance he could get. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He always looked forward to visiting his mother every year in his childhood home. He loved spending time with his father and especially their many late-night phone calls that lasted for hours. He was an honorable and respectful man with a deep sense of integrity. He was loyal and dedicated to every aspect of his life: his friendships, his career, his home, his pets and most of all, his family. He was an incredibly generous person to those he cared about, and he gave more than he ever received throughout his entire life. MSG McCormack is survived by his wife, Olivia (Withrow) McCormack; and his two children: Isaac McCormack and Mina Lawson-Radcliffe. He is also survived by his parents: Robert McCormack and Esther (Baker) McCormack; his sister: Michelle (McCormack) Florimbio Schall and husband, Jeffrey Schall; his parents-in-law: Michael and Elizabeth (Blackburn) Withrow; and his sister-in-law: Amanda (Withrow) Cash and husband, Joshua Cash. He also had 12 nieces and nephews. Funeral services for MSG McCormack will be 11:00 am Tuesday May 23, 2023 at Chapman Funeral Home Hurricane, WV. Graveside service will follow with military honors at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery Dunbar, WV. Friends may visit the family Monday May 22, 2023 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm and an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
