Robert M. McCracken

Robert M. McCracken, 61, of St. Albans passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at his home. Born August 2, 1954 in Charleston, Robert was a son of the late Paul W. and Louana Derrick McCracken. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Karen Grimm and infant sister, Kathy McCracken. He was a lifelong resident of St. Albans, where he was a graduate of the St. Albans High School class of 1972. He graduated from Marshall University in 1976 and had worked for the State of West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation since 1978. He was a member of Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, Marshall University Quarterback Club of Charleston, the Tallman Track Club of Charleston and a member of the Big Green. He was a longtime Pittsburgh Pirate Fan and Marshall Fan. He had been an avid runner since 1980; he ran over 300 local runs and 13 marathons including the Boston Marathon in 2002. He loved reading, and his favorite show was Jeopardy. He always tried to live by the Golden Rule and his greatest achievement was being a father and grandfather. Robert loved his family and was a great husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Debbie McCracken; daughters, Kristen McCracken-Shockey (Steve) of Winfield, Allie McCracken-Gessel (Jeremy) of St. Albans; mother-in-law, Jean Frecka of Ironton, OH; sisters-in-law, Sandy Newman of Ironton, OH and Sherri Jones of Raceland, KY; grandchildren, Brody and Braelyn and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He also loved his 2 grand cats and 6 grand dogs. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Highlawn Baptist Church, 2304 Jefferson Avenue, St. Albans with Rev. Mark Stauffer officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Wednesday at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans.
