Rodney D. Vannoy

Rodney D. Vannoy, 69, of Scott Depot, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 12, 2017 after a short illness. Rod was born April 2, 1947 in Charleston, WV to Darrell and Loretta Vannoy. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a wonderful friend to many. Rod never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with open arms. He was quick-witted, funny and charming and never lacked a good comeback. By his own admission, time spent with those he loved was more valuable than all the treasures in the world. His lifelong passion for automobiles (or anything with wheels) was evident in all he did, from hobbies to career choices; the latter of which included several years in car sales and his much-loved post retirement career of driving a school bus. Nothing pleased him more than sharing this passion with his grandchildren, who all have very fond memories of tractor and moped rides, and perhaps underage driving in one of Grandpa’s many vehicles. Rod was a devout Christian and member of Judson Baptist Church, where he served as Head Trustee. He was also a member of American Baptist Men and served on the Board of Christian Education. His love of Christ was evident and of great comfort to him and his loved ones, especially in his final days. Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Becky; his adoring daughters, Princess Young (Charlie) of St. Albans, WV and Xann Palmer (Jim) of Mount Kisco, NY; his much-cherished grandchildren, Drew and Lindsay Smith, Chelsea and Sydney Young, Zoe and Siena Palmer. Rod is also survived by Becky’s daughter Kim Greenlee and her son, Nick. Surviving siblings: Jean Sanson, Karen Jeffries and Dreama Wines. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and a host of very special friends. Visitation will be at Chapman Funeral Home in Teays Valley from 6-8pm on March 15th. Funeral will be at Judson Baptist Church on Bills Creek Road at 11am on March 16th. Final resting place will be Judson Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the St. Mary’s Foundation Hospitality House, who were so kind to Rod’s family during his unexpected and extended stay in the hospital.
