Ruth Marie Curnes McClure Blaine

Ruth Marie Curnes McClure Blaine, 90, of St. Albans, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House West, South Charleston. Born December 10, 1923, at the family home in St. Albans, Ruth was the daughter of the late John Waverly and Iva Griffith Curnes. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Francis “Frosty” McClure, her sister Frances Lee Curnes Morris, her second husband, Robert Willard Blaine and her daughter Barbara Blaine-Klingler. Ruth was a St. Albans High School graduate and valedictorian of the class of 1943 and attended West Virginia State University. Ruth also was awarded the WV Golden Horseshoe Award while attending St. Albans Junior High School. She was a former owner of McClure & White Furniture and Appliance store on Main Street in St. Albans and retired as the financial secretary for First Baptist Church of St. Albans. Ruth loved her church very much and was so proud to be a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Albans. Through her many years at First Baptist she served as a Deaconess, a member of the Board of Christian Education, a member of the Board of Music and she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Good News Sunday School Class and a sponsor of youth work. She is survived by her children, Nancy McClure Bennett (John) of Winfield, Jon Blaine of Chandler, AZ, Thomas Blaine (Sandra) of Sweeny, TX, Marilyn Facemyer of St. Albans and Carolyn Gerkin (Dan) of Vienna, VA; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Hubbard Hospice House West for the care they provided to Ruth, as well as the family. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans with Rev. Joel M. Harpold officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 2:00pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
