Thomas Anderson Lee

Thomas Anderson Lee, 78, of Scott Depot, WV, passed away at home on August 15, 2026. Tom was born to the late James Matthew and Imogene “Peppy” Meadows Lee on April 18, 1948, in Charleston, WV. Tom was a devoted husband, father and Paw Paw. He was a patient, loving and kind gentleman who was there for the people he loved. He also had a wonderfully dry and wicked sense of humor, and those who knew him best will remember the quiet jokes and perfectly timed comments that had everyone around him laughing. He loved his family deeply and took great pride in being a husband, dad and grandfather. Tom was a faithful Christian who sought to deepen his knowledge of Scripture. Tom was a proud veteran who dedicated much of his life to serving his country. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and later served in Germany at Spandau Prison. He later became a Green Beret and excelled as a Jump Master before retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) after serving with the 2nd Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group and with the West Virginia Army National Guard. He was a member of VFW #6418 in St. Albans, WV, the Berlin US Military Veterans Association, the Military Officers Association of America and attended River Ridge Church in Teays Valley. Tom studied at Charleston High School and Morris Harvey College. He loved the ocean, especially the Gulf Coast. He was a lifelong fan of the Cubs – even before they broke the Curse of the Goat. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Elaine McComas Lee; daughters: Melissa (Steven) Neesen of Greeneville, TN, Sarah Lee of Atlanta, GA, and Elizabeth Lee of WV; grandson Zachary Neesen of Greeneville, TN; siblings: Charlotte (Claude) Keller, Carolyn (the late Daniel) Short, and James (Helena) Lee; as well as many other family members and dear friends. Also surviving Tom is Winston: his constant canine companion, who had a permanent spot on Tom’s lap in his favorite recliner and was rarely willing to give it up. Tom’s family will especially miss, perhaps more than they’d like to admit, the world’s best Thanksgiving mashed potatoes – something his wife, daughters and grandson fought over every holiday and have yet to figure out how to make as well as he did. Tom will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and will be remembered for his steadfastness, his kindness, his humor, his service to his country and his community, his devotion to God and his unwavering love for his family. A funeral service for Tom will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Chapman Funeral Home in Hurricane, WV. Family, friends and loved ones may visit with the family from 5:00PM to the start of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Donel C.
