Van M. "Bud" Patton

Van M. "Bud" Patton went peacefully to be in his Lord's loving arms on Saturday, December 8, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by Judy A. Patton, wife; parents, Clebert and Isabel Patton and brother, David Patton. Van is survived by current wife, Leta; daughter, Tammy Patton of Charleston; son, Tim Patton (Susan) of Ripley and sister, Susan Barthlow (Kevin) of St. Albans; grandchildren, Ricky Barber (Amanda) of Kentucky, Trevor Patton of Midway, Taylor Patton (Mat McCulley) of Charleston, Summer Lyons (Eric) of Hurricane, Ashley Barber (Thomas) of Hurricane; great-grandchildren, Trenton Patton, Morgan Patton, Lola Lyons, Ava Barber and Lucas McCulley; stepdaughters, Becky Klooz and family of Mississippi and Kim Spear and family of Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Van was born to Clebert and Isabel Patton on May 13, 1937 in Dunmore, WV. He attended St. Albans High School, graduating in 1955. He joined the Air Force, ANG 130th Airlift Wing at Yeager Airport in 1961 as an aircraft mechanic, moving up through the ranks to Chief Master Sergeant, retiring in 1992 with 33 plus years of service to our great country. As Van raised his family with Judy, they enjoyed camping and were members of the Teays Valley Roadrunners Camping Club, Family Campers and RVers Camping Club, Kentucky Colonels Camping Club and the American Legion. Van joined the Winfield Lions Club and was very active in all of their various events and fundraisers. Van and his family enjoyed many, many years of camping, making friends all over the United States and Canada. After retirement, Van became a snowbird and spent winters enjoying the sun in Florida. He was an excellent funnel-cake maker and everyone enjoyed them greatly. He loved to cook for large crowds and was well known for his delicious spaghetti and pancake breakfasts. Leta brought two daughters, Becky Klooz and Kim Spear and their children and grandchildren to the family whom he loved visiting, spending time and Christmas's with the families in Indiana, Mississippi and West Virginia. We would like to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Hospice House for their excellent care while Van was there. Everyone was just spectacular and so knowledgeable in their care and very sensitive to his needs. They can never be thanked enough. What a wonderful group of folks! In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Van M. Patton's name to Good Shepherd Hospice House, 450 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823. Funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial with military honors conducted by the Honor Team of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will following in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
