Virginia L. Barr

Virginia Leigh Barr, 86 of Winfield passed away April 19, 2017. Virginia, born March 5, 1931 was one of 12 children of the late Cecil and Zelda Brown of Ellamore. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barr was preceded in death by her husband, John Russell Barr and 10 siblings. She was a 1949 graduate of Coalton High School and WV Tech. She worked for Evans Grocery in St. Albans and cooked for many years at Winfield Elementary School. She retired teaching food service and restaurant management at Putnam Career and Technical Center. She attended the Winfield United Methodist Church and held the position of Adah with the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #150, Buffalo. She was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan as was her vascular doctor, Dr. Haas. Her favorite activity was square dancing with John Russell and loving on her grandchildren. She never missed an event that her children participated in including Rick’s football games and Debbie’s volleyball and basketball games. Mrs. Barr was a devout Republican, loved quilting and playing cards with Georgia and Nina. Aunt Ginny loved her family and cherished the family reunion every July. This was her super bowl and she loved hearing family call for “Aunt Ginny” and holding court with her sister, Margaret. Virginia is survived by her sister, Margaret Ratliff of Buckhannon; son, Rick Booth (Candace) of Winfield; daughter, Deborah Booth-Dodd (Steven) of Poca; grandson, Joe Booth of Winfield; granddaughter, Beth Rivera (Frank) of New Port Richey, Fl; great-grandchildren, Owen Booth, Nathan Booth, both of Winfield, Aurora Rivera and Frankie Rivera both of New Port Richey, Fl, numerous loving nieces and nephews that she loved dearly and caregiver Tanya Gibson of St. Albans. The family would like to thank Dr. Haas, Dr. Sarah Nease and Dr. Akins for their care over the years. She loved seeing them and hugging them and their nurses. The family also would like to thank the lab staff at CAMC-Teays Valley who gave her monthly iron infusions and great care and the staff of 7th floor CAMC General who gave her excellent care for the last two weeks of her life. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon Monday, April 24, 2017 at Chapman Funeral Home, Winfield. Buffalo Chapter # 150 will conduct an Order of the Eastern Star service at 1:30pm, and the funeral service will begin promptly at 2:00pm with the Rev. H. Thomas Hill officiating.
