Wanda G. Johnson

Wanda G. Johnson, 80, of Hurricane joined many loved ones in heaven Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at home surrounded by family. Born January 31, 1933 in Hurricane, she was a daughter of the late John Ferguson “Ferd” and Lorna Mae Sergent Porter who later married the late Harley Billups. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Carl Johnson in 1968, her son, John A. Johnson as well as her sister, Hilda J. Riddle and brother-in-law, James H. Collins. Wanda was a member of First Baptist Church, Hurricane where she was active in many church activities. She was a retired cook from Hurricane Middle School and taught in a one room school house in Hurricane in her early years. She also served the City of Hurricane as a Councilwoman for over 25 years. Surviving are her daughters, Susan Gibson of Bancroft, Teresa Gibson (Bob) of Hurricane; her daughter-in-law, Robin Johnson of Hurricane; her grandchildren, Bert Gibson (Pam), Eric Gibson (Adrianna), Whitney Cox (Andy), Rachel Bell (Anthony), Emily Gibson, Anthony Johnson (Jessie) and Ciara Johnson (Tyler King) and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley A. Collins of Culloden, brother, Dwane Porter of Parkersburg; step-sister, Doris Jean Lewis of Hurricane; step-brother, Reggie Billups (Gigi) of Hurricane and her brother-in-law, Cebert Riddle of Pt. Pleasant and her long-time caregiver, Belinda Lively, who was an important part of her life in the later years. Funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, February 3, 2014 at First Baptist Church, 2635 Main Street, Hurricane with Dr. James Lutz and Rev. Jerry Losh officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Visitation will be from 3-5pm Sunday at the Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane.
