Charles Wayne "Hoot" Gibson

Our dear father, Charles Wayne "Hoot" Gibson, 92, passed peacefully from this earthly realm into the arms of his Heavenly Father on February 25, 2017 in South Charleston, WV surrounded by his loving family. One of ten children born to the late Clarence & Gracie Mitchell Gibson, he was raised on the family farm on Five & Twenty Mile Creek where he attended Putnam Co. schools. Mr. Gibson formerly attended Adda Baptist Church & Charleston Mt. Mission. Wayne was a forty year resident of Cross Lanes, WV & had previously resided in Fraziers Bottom, Nitro, & Charleston where he owned & operated Gibson's Scale Service for over 25 years. Prior to his scale business, he had been a 14-year employee of American Viscose. He was proud to have obtained an apprenticeship as a certified scale mechanic/food equip. technician during his employment at Toledo Scale Co. & Hobart Sales & Service. After the sale of his business he was employed by Kanawha Scales & later Brechbuhler Scales, Inc. As well as his parents, Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years & mother of his children, Nina Gibson. Also, by his second wife Jennette Buckalew Gibson & also by brothers Howard, Wilson, & Wilmer Gibson & sisters, Agnes Hinkle, Helen Sturgeon, Lorene Erwin, Irene Erwin & Evaline Bird as well as his precious great-grandson Cody Roby & numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Paul Dixon & daughter-in-law, Marie Gibson. Mr. Gibson is survived by his six children, Karen Sue Dixon of St. Albans; Bruce (Barbara) Gibson of Mocksville, NC; Barbara (Gary) Lanham of Cross Lanes; Brenda (Pat) Semenie of Scott Depot; Deborah (James) Hodge of Huntington and Vicki (Dave) McGuire of Ripley. He is also survived by his youngest brother, Wade Gibson of Cincinnati, OH. In addition, he is survived by 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren & step-great, and step- great grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, family & friends. Our dad was a kind, loving, Christian role model who freely gave of himself to his family, friends & neighbors. He had a special bond with children & was loved by many who met him through the years. His sense of humor delighted & entertained several generations of little ones. Words are inadequate to express our love & deep loss we feel at his passing but we rejoice in knowing that he is reunited with loved ones gone before & that he's now where there is no more pain or sorrow! We love you, Dad! We would like to thank the staff of Valley Health Center for the loving kindness shown to our dad over the last two years. We also wish to thank the caregivers at Hubbard Hospice House West for their compassion & tender, loving care this past week. You were a blessing! Funeral service will be held at 1pm Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
