Debra M. Hurlbut

Debra M. Hurlbut, 57, of St. Albans, was called home by God Sunday, March 2, 2014 at CAMC-Memorial Division. Born November 4, 1956 in Charleston, she was a daughter of Lucille Gunno of St. Albans and the late Arthur Lee Gunno. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, John F. and Emmy Lou Hurlbut. A graduate of Charleston High School, Debbie received her formal training and nursing degrees from Morris Harvey College and West Virginia University. She was board certified as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse, a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, working for over 30 years with CAMC- Women and Children’s Hospital and with Pediatrix Medical Group the past 12 years. She also served on the neonatal transport team with HealthNet. She was recognized nationally by Pediatrix Medical Group in 2011 as Advanced Practitioner of the Year of the Central Region. Debbie taught nursing at WVU-Charleston Campus and through her selfless nature, contributed to the health and wellness of others by offering herself through the Center for Organ Recovery (CORE). She was a member of numerous professional nursing organizations and also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her babies at home, Jack Russell terriers Niles and Frasier were an important part of her life as well. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, David E. Hurlbut; her daughter, Tara N. Reed of Los Angeles; her step-children, Beth A. Jolly of Brandon, MS, David E. Hurlbut, II of Evansville, IN; three step-grandchildren, Brittany Gibbs, Zachery Steele and Avery Whatley; one step-great grandson, Wyatt Steele. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy McWhorter (Bryan) of Scott Depot; her brothers, Randy Gunno (Bev) of St. Albans and their children, Lisa Lucas (Gary) and their son Ethan, and Lori Cummings; Gary Gunno (Lynn) of St. Albans and their children, Jennifer Hamilton (Nathan) and John Gunno (Megan) and their daughter, Ariana. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (Historical Church), 405 “B” Street, St. Albans with Father Bill Barfield officiating. Entombment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
