Gary Ray Young

Gary Ray Young, 79, of Hurricane went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 1, 2013. Born July 20, 1934, Gary was the son of the late Ray Young and Helen Mees Young. He was a devout, born again Christian and life-long resident of Putnam County. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his children Gary Douglas Young and wife Penny of Winfield, Rita Marion of Gallipolis, OH, Jeff Petersen and wife Judy of Eleanor and Michelle Culp and husband Scott of Milton; brothers and sisters Geraldine Chapman and husband Kledith of Hurricane, Jack Young and wife Barbara of Milton, Lovetta Burnette and husband Henry of Bluffton, SC and a number of brothers and sisters-in-law; aunts Narnie Nile Young Grant of Hurricane, Eva Young Fisher of Hurricane; grandchildren Amanda Young Cintron of Naples, FL, Amber Young Stevens of Scott Depot, Gary Douglas Young, II of Seoul, Korea, Heidi Clark of Winfield, Aaron and Hannah Culp of Milton, Ashley Morris of Hurricane, Nikki Marion of Greenville, SC and Chad Petersen of Hurricane; great-grandchildren Lincoln Haynes, Asher, Jude and Evelyn Stevens, Eziekel Cintron and Ari Zane Clark, Dawson Petersen and Bella Petersen Morris. Gary was a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church for 22 years, where he was a devoted member of the choir. He loved to sing Gospel music and earlier in his life was a member of the Sun Valley Quartet. He loved the hills and mountains of West Virginia where he hiked, hunted and fished. Gary began his construction career working for Southeastern Construction where he achieved the distinction of Master Carpenter and foreman. He was project superintendent for Bowers and Chilton Construction and was with Beco, Inc. for many years. Gary and his son co-founded G&G builders in 1976 and worked on many major construction projects. The funeral service to honor Gary’s life will be 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 3926 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, WV with Dr. John Smith officiating. Private graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 4 at Valley View Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Hurricane, WV. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in Gary R. Young’s honor to Teays Valley Baptist Church Missions Fund or Teays Valley Baptist Church Choir Fund, 3926 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane, WV 25526.
