Karl C. Shaver

Karl C. Shaver of Cross Lanes passed away January 22, 2015. Karl was born in Dixon, Illinois on July 25, 1928, son of the late Nettie Blum Shaver. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served on active duty as a Lieutenant in the US Army Signal Corp from 1950-1954. He was a licensed Professional Engineer, a member of the Putnam County Gun Club, and the Mountaineer Soaring Club. He loved soaring and sailing, and was a licensed sailplane pilot and certified sailboat captain. In his true engineering spirit, he was a puzzle solver who was always curious about how things worked. He could fix anything. He was an avid reader and most of all, enjoyed spending time with his wife and sons. Karl was employed by RCA in NJ and PA, Lenkurt Electric in Redwood City, CA, and Columbia Gas Transmission in Charleston and St. Albans where he retired in 1992. He was a life-long Lutheran and was a faithful member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church since 1974. Karl is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carmella, three sons: Richard and his wife Sarah of South Charleston; Robert and his wife Debrah of Chevy Chase, MD; and Steven and his wife Rebecca of Greensburg, PA; two grandchildren: Karl and Katherine Shaver of South Charleston; two sisters: Betty Voorhees and her husband James of Westchester, PA and Helen Moser of Camden, SC; and sister in-law Yavkina Sahatjian of Scott Depot, formerly of Miami, FL. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 26, 2015 and Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 900 Lawndale Lane, Charleston. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with Pastor Jack Richards officiating.
