Mary Sebastian Pratt went to Heaven on Saturday, September 12th, 2020. Born on August 27th, 1939, Mary was raised in Breathitt County, KY where she grew up on Sebastian’s Branch-Canoe, KY. She spent most of her adult life in Newport, KY and was residing in Scott Depot, WV at the time of her passing. She was a retired Cincinnati Bell 411 Directory Assistance Operator. Mary was devoted to the Lord and to her family. She was a diligent Bible student, committed prayer warrior, insightful Sunday School Teacher, compassionate Grief Share Leader, and dedicated herself to food and outreach ministries. Mary had a heart for children and people in need, often taking people into her home, and giving temporary assistance until they could get on their feet. Mary enjoyed crafts, crocheting, gardening, birds and working with flowers. She was also known for her country cooking and baking. She was unassuming, gentle, encouraging and simple, but she was a deep thinker whose intellect exceeded her education. Mary’s love of books began when she was a child. It is estimated that she read over 10,000 books during the course of her lifetime. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting people donate elementary children’s books or books about Appalachia that will be delivered to the Breathitt County KY public library where they will be placed in Mary’s honor. Duplicates will be donated to the Newport, KY Public Library. If you'd like to mail or drop off books, you may do so using 149 Beechwood Estates, Scott Depot, WV 25560 or 30 Grandview, Ft. Thomas, KY 41075. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings, her husband, Herschel, a son, Johnny McIntosh, and daughter, Tracey Iles.
