March 6, 1931 - July 12, 2019
Phyllis Carol Pritt, or Phyl, as she preferred, went home to be with the Lord at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital July 12, 2019. Phyl was the only child of Hobert and Ethel Jarrett and was born in Cocoa, Kanawha County on March 6, 1931. She had a kind and loving heart and she loved the Lord and all of His creation. The flowers and birds were a delight to her and the animals were especially precious in her sight. She could not keep her hands off of Zach, her feisty, fiercely loyal little miniature poodle. Andy Blue, her beautiful Ragdoll cat with his long white fur and long plume of a tail brought her great joy. Phyl was an avid quilter and enjoyed the company and fellowship of her quilting club friends. She had a life-long love of reading, especially Amish books. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane. She was a graduate of Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston) and taught at Elkview Junior High School for several years before entering social work. After a few years in social work she became a Licensed Practical Nurse and thoroughly enjoyed working in the CAMC Hospital Nursery. Phyl was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Ethel Jarrett and her first husband, James W. Smithson. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harold; daughters: Debbie and Jeff Allen, Sarah Beth and Larry Hartwell, and Penny and Bob Steele; she also leaves behind four step-daughters: Cindy and John Henderson, Lynn and Randy Spencer, Susan and Ed Dent, and Hope and Ric Rieffer; step-son: Nathan and Kim Pritt; eleven step-grandchildren and twenty four step-great grandchildren. The family is very appreciative of Beverly Holley, her caregiver, who established a close bond with her and provided her with loving and sensitive care during her illness. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Pastor Jeff Davenport and Dr. Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
