Colonel Rishel C. Walker of Scott Depot, WV died peacefully on February 15, 2019 at the age of 89. Colonel Walker is survived by his loving wife, Sandra R. Walker and children Jean Boggs (Brent) of Gassaway, WV, John Walker (Rebecca) of Charleston, SC, Nicole Kuhl (Chris) of Yorktown, VA, and Natalie Gilham (Tom) of Winston-Salem, NC. Grandchildren include Jessica Cote (Greg) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Justin Boggs (Jennifer) of Hurricane, WV, Lauren Bentley (Ben) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jacob Walker (Stephany) of Charleston, SC, Jared Walker of Kapaa, HI, Alyssa and Evan Kuhl of Yorktown, VA. Great Grandchildren include Collin and Gavin Singleton of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Carson and Kenzie Boggs of Hurricane, WV, and Charlotte Bentley of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Siblings include Arlan Walker (Doris) of Wapakoneta, OH and Linda Walker (BJ) of Volcano, HI. He is preceded in death by his parents Breman C. and Beulah M. Walker of Tuppers Creek, WV as well as his infant daughter, Debra Ann Walker. Brothers and Sisters who preceded Rishel in death are: Theda M. Walker, Ivan R. Walker, Loretta J. Walker (Connor), Glen H. Walker, Theodore E. Walker, and Emogene D. Walker. Rishel was born on September 27, 1929 in Tuppers Creek, WV. He graduated from Elkview High School in 1947. He attended Morris Harvey and WV State Colleges. He joined the West Virginia Air National Guard and US Air Force in 1947 and he retired in 1987. Rishel and Sandra were married April 25, 1981. Rishel was accomplished at woodworking, gardening and often gifted family and friends with his talented work. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend. His children remember him as a very kind, gentle and patient father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Rishel was generous and dedicated to his church and community, volunteering with the local Food Pantry. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 1PM at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV. Dr. Kyle Key will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rishel’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Teays Valley Presbyterian Church at 5339 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot, WV 25560. The family would like to thank Dr. James A. Akins and staff, CAMC Teays Valley hospital and Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Chapman Funeral Home, family-owned since 1959 and located at 3941 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane is honored to serve the Walker family.
