Betty Dykes Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Betty Lockhart Dykes, 83, of St. Albans, WV passed away peacefully following a brief illness at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. on February 19, 2010. She was born Betty Lee Pool in Bluefield, WV, to the late William H. and Jeanetter C. Pool. Betty was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Thomas P. Lockhart, Jr.; and Norman M. Dykes, Jr., her husband of 17 years and her brother, Benjamin W. Pool. She was a graduate of Bluefield High School and Montreat College. Betty, a lifelong Presbyterian, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Albans for 47 years. She received the Presbyterian Women?s Honorary Life Membership Award in 1986 for her devotion and work with Presbyterian Women and for her service within the congregation. She was an avid bridge player for over 50 years. She also loved to cook and entertain. Betty was active as a volunteer in the community and spent many years delivering Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William T. and Linda C. Lockhart of Marietta, Georgia.; her daughter, Martha J. Lockhart of Flushing, Michigan; grandsons, Chandler T. Lockhart of Arlington, Virginia and Brandon P. Lockhart of Oxford, Mississippi; step-daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John A. Yutzey and granddaughter, Elizabeth Yutzey all of Columbus, Ohio. Memorial services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Avenue, St. Albans, WV with Rev. Paul D. Romine presiding. Entombment will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty?s honor to Make-A-Wish Foundation or Montreat College.
