Dora Faye Calvert Smith

DORA FAYE CALVERT SMITH, 78, of St. Albans, died March 10, at CAMC General Division. She was born January 2, 1939, in Charleston, and was the daughter of the late Earl and Grace Calvert of Rand. She was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Dr. Paul H. Smith; and son, Mark Wesley Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Susannah Smith; her sister, Barbara Calvert St. John; sister-in-law, Nancy Smith Frederick (Trevy); niece, Nissa Taylor and nephew, Brenton St. John. She graduated from DuPont High School, Belle, and West Virginia University Institute of Technology with a Home Economics degree. Following her marriage to Paul, she was devoted to his passion for ministry while becoming a gracious homemaker and hostess. She was a beautiful seamstress and artist to perfection. During Paul’s tenure in the ministry, with his last appointment being St. Andrew UMC, they lived in several cities, and she developed friendships around the State. Strangers became friends and were loved as family. She had an unforgettable smile and a delightful sense of humor. After her children were grown, she acquired a Teacher’s Certificate and was employed at Anne Bailey, Taft and Andrew Heights Elementary Schools, where she worked with under-privileged and mentally-challenged children. Dora Faye was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, St. Albans. She organized and was leader of The Peace Makers, making Quilts of Valor for Military Veterans and Prayer Pillows for those in need of spiritual inspiration. She was a member of the Phyllis Asher Fellowship, Worship Committee, Altar Guild and a former member of the St. Albans Garden Club. She also established the St. Albans Red Hat Society Classy Lassies. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, St. Albans with Rev. Ed Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Visitation will be held two hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the St. Andrew United Methodist Church, Quilting Ministry, 815 Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, WV 25177.
