Larry Chapman

Larry Joe Chapman, 72, of Culloden, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 10, 2011, at Putnam General Hospital, after a long illness. Larry was born August 25, 1938, in Hurricane. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Freda and Marcel Gibson, of Hurricane, from his youth. He graduated from Hurricane High School where he played varsity basketball. At age eighteen, Larry began a career with C & P Telephone Company as an installer and repairman which spanned 35 years until his retirement from management in 1991. He was very dedicated to his work and enjoyed it immensely. He loved sports, particularly basketball; and he was an avid golfer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hurricane where he was actively involved for many years. Larry was always known for his caring spirit and gentle attitude; he was a true example and testimony of his unwavering faith throughout his life. He was wonderful and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend; he will forever be held in the hearts of many. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of Larry?s nurses and caregivers at CAMC Putnam. Special thanks to Kathy Amick and Dr. Rittinger, the staff at Fresenius of Teays Valley, and the MTS drivers who went above and beyond. Larry was preceded in death by his only and beloved daughter, Elizabeth Roselle Turley; granddaughter, Kimberly Alison Turley; mother, Marina Chapman; special aunt, Freda Gibson; and brother, Danny Chapman. Larry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Marilyn Hinkle Chapman; granddaughters, Lori Jo (Jason) Neubert of Poplar Grove, IL, and Leslie Anne Turley of Charlotte, NC; uncle, Marcel Gibson of Hurricane; brother in law, Earl Hinkle (Connie) of St. Albans; sisters in law, Claudette Lane of Hurricane, Carol (Julian) Tinsley of Roanoke, VA, and Jonnie (LTC. Benjamin H.) Downing of Richmond, VA; and many other special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 13, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Jim McGehee officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
