Lorus "Jack" Hickman

Surrounded by the love of his family, Lorus “Jack” Hickman, of St. Albans, WV, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, December 19, 2014. He was born on November 14, 1926 in Calhoun County, a son of the late Ethan and Pearl Hickman. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 65 years, Lila Kight Hickman; infant son, Samuel Hickman; brothers, twin brother, Jake and wife, Betty; Orel Hickman and wife, Gladys; sisters, Coe McCartney and husband, Goff; and Blondenia Parshall and husband, Johnnie. He is survived by his daughters Marie Lamont and husband, Bill of Hurricane, WV; Joyce Moore and husband, Mike of Hurricane, WV; grandchildren, Sherrie Stone of Nitro, WV, Travis Moore and wife, Melissa of Summerville, SC, David Lamont of Scott Depot, WV; great-grandchildren, Brandon Stone of Nitro, WV, Joseph & Mackenzie Moore of Summerville, SC; brothers’ in-law, Roy Kight and wife, Crystal, Freddie Kight and wife, Madeline; and many nieces and nephews. Jack graduated from Calhoun County High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. In 1948, he and his wife moved to Charleston, WV to pursue a career with the C & O Railroad. He later retired from Mountaineer Gas. Jack was a faithful Christian for many decades and often found creative ways to serve the Lord. As a member of Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, he served as an usher and always enjoyed greeting people as they entered the sanctuary for worship. He loved to listen to gospel music, study his Bible, and listen to good preaching. He was an active member of the Teays Valley Baptist Joy class and always looked forward to their trips and fellowship. Active in the community, Jack was very active at the Hansford Senior Center and was always willing to offer a helping hand. As a simple man who loved the Lord, he will be remembered for his wonderful personality and compassion for others. He loved his family and enjoyed every moment he spent with them. He especially enjoyed organizing the annual Hickman reunion. A home-going celebration of the life of Jack will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014, at Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church in Hurricane with Dr. John Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Teays Valley Missionary Baptist Church, 3926 Teays Valley Road.
