Marvel Lee Cottrell

Marvel Lee Cottrell, 78, of Hurricane, entered into heavenly rest on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at her residence in Hurricane after a long illness. Marvel Lee was born August 25, 1938 in Asheville, NC the daughter of Benjamin M. Belcher and Edna Mae Burnette Belcher, now deceased. She grew up in the town of Cabin Creek and was a graduate of East Bank High School where she excelled in many school activities including band and was outstanding as head majorette. She attended Marshall University and was a retired employee of the Kanawha County Commission. On September 8, 1962, she married Paul V. Cottrell, her beloved husband, and to this union were born three children who survive, daughter Kelly L. Cottrell of Hurricane and sons, Patrick L. Cottrell of Charleston and Brian P. Cottrell of Enoree, SC. She is also survived by her husband, Paul V. Cottrell and beloved sister, Sallie Pat Tackett (Allen) of Miami and niece, Lisa Tackett of St. Albans and nephew, Allen Tackett, Jr. of Milton. Marvel Lee was a striking and beautiful lady in body and spirit. She loved the beach and being with her family as they journeyed every year to Myrtle Beach where they enjoyed the ocean and going to Calabash to partake of the wonderful seafood restaurants. She was a longtime member of the Chelyan United Methodist Church, where she was married to her husband, Paul, in 1962. As Christian disciples, we are assured that she now rests in the Everlasting Arms. As the great Apostle wrote these famous word: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with Pastor Rev. Michael Q. Atkinson presiding. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
