Mary Deidre DeLong

Mary Deidre (Podiak) DeLong, of Hurricane, WV, passed away Thursday, July 7th, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 22nd 1969 in Toledo, Ohio to Richard S. and the late Patricia A. (McHugh) Podiak, Sr. Deidre attended the University of Toledo, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelors of Education. She was a teacher for most of her life choosing to homeschool her 3 children before returning to the workforce as a private ACT Tutor. Through her business ECT, Educational Consulting and Private Tutorials, Deidre helped many children from around the Huntington-Charleston area get into college. Deidre met and married the love of her life, Dennis E. DeLong in Toledo in 1991 where they resided for 8 years before moving to Hurricane where they made their home and raised their three children. Deidre was also a former member of Sacred Heart Parish, where she served as a PreK Teacher. In addition to her mother, Pat Podiak, Deidre was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Robert Lee DeLong, Sr. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 25 years, Dennis E. DeLong; children, Zachery Paul, Jakob Alexander and Eva Patrice DeLong; father, Richard Podiak, Sr. of Palm Coast, FL siblings, Trish (Mitch) Pickens of Findlay, OH, Rick Podiak of Toledo, OH, Peggi (Bill) Burkett of Whitehouse, OH, Deborah (Kevin) Hertzfeld of Waterville, OH; David (Cindy) Podiak of E. Dubuque, IL, Douglas Podiak, Waterville, OH and Daniel (Diana) Podiak of St. Augustine, FL; mother-in-law, Henrietta (Al) Beane, Springfield, OH; brother-in-law, Robert Lee (Susan) DeLong, Jr Xenia, OH and sister-in-law, Sandra (Terry) Schultz, Powell, OH; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles cousins and dear friends and her Great Danes, Bert and Ellie. Friends are invited to join the family Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at The Catholic Church of the Ascension, 905 Hickory Mill Rd. Hurricane, for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Harry Cramer. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.
