Mary Jane Knopf

Mary Jane Knopf, 79, of St. Albans passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at her home. She was born March 25, 1937 in Richwood, WV a daughter of the late Howard and Elenora Gregory Kuhl. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Tressie Kuhl and her first husband, David Dorsey. Mary Jane attended Glenville State College and was a graduate of Morris Harvey College, now known as the University of Charleston. She began her teaching career in Richwood, taught at Cane Fork Elementary but served the students and families of Lakewood Elementary for a number of years before her retirement. She will be remembered for her creative abilities through her work with Creative Memories, Stamping Up and the beautiful cards she hand made for family and friends. She and her husband loved to square dance and ballroom dance. They were also very instrumental in the development and early years of the company, Mattress Warehouse, where she served in the past as treasurer. Surviving are her husband of 33 years, Robert J. Knopf; her step-children, whom she loved and cared for as her own, Kenneth Eugene Knopf (Kim) of Charleston, Kim Leanne Nicholas (Don) of Cedar Hill, TX, Katherine Lynn Foster (Tim) of Westchester, OH; sisters, Mable Andrick and Jeanette Kuhl both of St. Albans; brother, Howard Kuhl (Ruby) of Bridgewater, MI; ten step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews include Jean Entrup (Richard) of Techumseh, MI, David Kuhl (Diana) of Saline, MI, Gregory Kuhl (Joyce) of Milan, MI and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, March 13, 2017 at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church, 30 Grace Drive, Hurricane with Rev. Clifford Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Sunday at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans.
