Mike Reid

John Michael “Mike” Reid, 59 of Hurricane passed away February 2, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Donald and Rosie Reid; sister Honey Reid and canine companions, Buffy, Sassy, Reese, Dottie and Foxy. “Mike” as he was known by family and friends was a 1975 graduate of Dunbar High School (Go Bulldogs!). He worked at John Amos Power Plant and was a First Responder with 36 years of faithful service. He and his family were members of Teays Valley Church of God, Scott Depot. Mike is survived by his wife of 33 years, Suzanne; son, Nicholas Reid of Hurricane; brother, Bill Reid (Terri) of Dunbar; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Mary Ann Triplett of NC; sister-in-law, Amy Scaringe (Brian) of NC; nieces, Donna Reid of Dunbar, Emma Rowe and Allie Rowe of NC; nephews, Steve Reid (Stacey) of Dunbar and Jonathan Caruthers of NC; great-niece, Samantha Reid and canine companions, Lucky and Sunshine. Celebration of his life will be held from 1:00pm-4:00pm, Saturday at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane. The family is looking forward to hearing many stories and memories, even the ones that have been told over and over. So they can continue to be shared for years to come, there will be several tables with memory books and will be used to introduce Mike’s future grandchildren to him. In keeping with his fun-loving spirit, casual attire is requested by the family, in remembrance of Mike. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm, Saturday February 6, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Melissa Pratt and Rev. Thom Pratt officiating. Mike, always the giving person, will not allow death to end that. He donated his body to the Human Gift Registry at Marshall University, in hopes of helping others. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the family and friends, who brought food, ran errands, helped around the house, called and messaged and most importantly prayed for Mike and the family. To the staff of Kanawha HospiceCare, Dr. Geller at UPMC and Dr. Reynolds at Cabell Huntington, thank you for your stellar level care of Mike throughout his illness. Mike will be remembered for his “Talent” for talking, always having a joke to tell, love of helping other’s and enjoyment to talk politics (especially if you agreed with him). He will always be remembered as a loving husband and father. As everyone knows, Mike loved to help others. In That Spirit, A “Pay It Forward” account has been established at BBT in Teays Valley.
